About the studio

Small team.
Senior engineers.
No fluff.

Webbyfox is a Python & AI consultancy based in the UK. We build Wagtail CMS platforms, Django products and applied AI systems for product teams who need engineering they can actually own — without the overhead of a large agency.

Built by someone who got tired
of inheriting other people's mess.

I started Webbyfox after a decade of building digital products inside agencies, startups and in-house teams. The pattern I kept hitting was the same: a project would be "done", handed over to the client, and six months later someone would be on the phone asking why the plugin that runs half the site just had a critical CVE, or why a simple content change needed a developer, or why the migration data that was supposed to be in a field was actually buried in a WordPress shortcode.

The common thread wasn't bad intentions. It was structural choices made early that locked teams into ongoing complexity: CMSes that couldn't enforce schema, page builders that let every editor invent a new layout, bespoke plugins that nobody understood. The maintenance burden compounds until it's a significant line in the engineering budget every quarter.

"I'm not interested in building things that need constant babysitting. Good engineering should shrink the cost of ownership over time, not grow it."
— Rizwan Mansuri, Founder

Wagtail changed how I thought about CMS work. Here was a platform built by engineers who took content modelling seriously — typed StreamField blocks, version history, page-tree structure, and a Django foundation that put the database one import away from your data and AI tooling. After the first two Wagtail projects, I stopped taking WordPress work.

The AI practice grew organically from the same frustration: off-the-shelf LLM wrappers that require constant prompt-fiddling and fall over when the underlying model changes. I started building retrieval systems — pgvector, LangGraph, structured RAG pipelines — that treat the AI layer as an engineering concern, not a product feature bolted on late. The data is typed, the retrieval is testable, the cost is predictable.

Webbyfox is deliberately small and deliberately senior. We take on 3–5 projects at a time, work alongside your team rather than in a black box, and write code that your engineers can reason about after we've left.

The people behind the work.

Small by design. Senior by default. Every project has a named lead who is accountable start to finish.

Principles we
actually ship by.

🏗️
Structure over flexibility
Typed schemas, enforced layouts and version-controlled content are worth the upfront discipline. Flexibility without structure just moves the complexity to the support queue.
📐
Own-ability over cleverness
We write code that your in-house team can read on a Friday afternoon. That means fewer abstractions, better names, and tests that explain intent — not just coverage numbers.
🔬
AI where it earns it
We're enthusiastic about applied AI and sceptical about AI for its own sake. We add LLMs when they reduce cost or open a capability that wasn't there — not as a selling point.
🔒
Security is engineering, not a checklist
A small, audited dependency graph is more secure than a large, well-patched one. We choose Django and Wagtail partly because the CVE surface is small and manageable.
💬
Honest scoping upfront
We scope to a fixed price before we start — which means the estimates are real and the contingency is yours, not ours. If the scope changes, we say so before the invoice does.
📊
Outcomes over hours
We don't bill by the hour. We price by the outcome. That aligns our incentive — finish well, not run long — and makes your budget predictable from day one.

How a project
actually runs.

01 · Discover
Discovery Sprint
We start with a fixed-price Discovery Sprint: stakeholder interviews, technical audit, content modelling and a scoped delivery plan. You own the output regardless of what you build next.
2 weeks · £8k fixed
02 · Define
Architecture & Scoping
From the Discovery output we produce a data model, component library sketch and delivery roadmap with milestones and payment schedule. No surprises from here.
1 week · included in project
03 · Build
Iterative Delivery
Two-week sprints, a shared Linear board, weekly video reviews and a staging environment from week one. You see real working software, not slide decks.
4–14 weeks typically

Launch & Transition
Documented runbooks, recorded walkthroughs for your team, a 30-day hypercare period and optional retainer for ongoing changes. We stay until you're confident, not just until it's live.
